UNK Student-Athletes Selected for NCAA ConferenceFootball & Women's Tennis
Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney student-athletes Jonathon Cannon (football) and Katie-Mary Outhwaite (tennis) will represent the Lopers at the 2008 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference later this month in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Out of a pool of 1,840 nominations from 462 NCAA schools, only 700 student-athletes were chosen for the conference, held May 25-29 at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort. UNK is one of only a few schools to have two student-athletes selected. The conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to discuss issues that effect them on their campuses, and also provides them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Cannon (Killeen, Texas), a defensive tackle, will be one of just six fifth year seniors on the 2008 football team. After transferring in from the University of Memphis, Outhwaite (Western Australia) has played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Loper women's tennis team this spring.
