Former Loper Called Up By YankeesWon Three Games for UNK in 2003
Kearney, Neb. – Former Nebraska-Kearney pitcher Joba Chamberlain was called up by the New York Yankees Monday (August 6th) afternoon. He'll be in the bullpen when the Bronx Bombers face the Toronto Bluejays this week. The Lincoln native went 3-6 with 49 K's and a 5.23 ERA for UNK in the spring of 2004. Earning honorable mention All-RMAC honors, Chamberlain beat Mesa State and Colorado State-Pueblo when both were ranked in the nation's top 10. His other win as a Loper came at home vs. Colorado School of Mines. For that three hit complete game shutout, Chamberlain was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week (May 30th), his first honor as a collegian. The Lincoln Northeast grad led the Lopers in ERA and K's that season while ranking second in appearances (15) and third in innings (53 1/3). Chamberlain went onto star at Nebraska in the 2005 and 2006. Below are shots take of Joba in 2004. The action shot is courtesy the Kearney Hub. |
