Wrobel Continues to Impress in MinnesotaAmong League Leaders in Saves, ERA
Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney pitcher Ryan Wrobel is having an outstanding season for the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods League. The 14-team wood bat league is one of many around the country for college players. Wrobel currently is a teammate of Nebraska's DJ Belfonte and with players from such schools as UCLA, Cal and Oklahoma State. For a St. Cloud team that is 21-13 and leading the North Division, Wrobel is 3-0 with nine saves and a 0.41 ERA. He has given up just one earned run in 22 innings with 19 strikeouts and six walks. On July 11th, the Northwoods League will hold an all-star game in Mankato, Minn. The game will be carried live on ESPN U and ESPN 360. Rosters will be announced shortly for that event. Wrobel also is one of two players selected by his teammates as an "alternate" captain, joining Indiana State's David Brumagin. Adam Kampsen of Division II Northern State is the team captain. This past season, Wrobel was the Lopers' No. 1 starter as he went 5-2 with a 2.74 ERA. His season came to and end on April 5th when he took a line drive off his pitching hand in a game at Metro State. Because he played in only eight games, Wrobel will receive a medical redshirt and come back in 2008 for his senior season. For more information, go to www.riverbats.com.
