Kearney, Neb. – – The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team is the sixth seed in the West Regional of the 2008 NCAA Division II Tournament and will face top-seed Sonoma State this Thursday (May 15th) in Chico, Calif. The pairings for the 48-team field -- six teams in eight regions -- came out late Sunday night. The third-seed, Chico State, will host the West regional at Nettleton Stadium. UNK and 6th-ranked SSU (46-13) will begin at 1:00 p.m. Central. Ticket prices are $ 8.00 (G.A. adults), $ 6.00 (seniors), $ 4.00 (college and high school students with ID) and $ 3.00 (children under 12). Tickets will only be sold at the stadium and only on a per-day basis. UNK (33-25) is in the NCAA field for the second time in school history after winning the RMAC Tournament for the second straight season. In 2007, the Lopers beat a then-No. 1 ranked Sonoma in the first round, 8-7, before falling to Cal State L.A. (26-7) and Chico (3-0). The Seawolves won their second straight CCAA title (California Collegiate Athletic Association) over the weekend, sweeping a double header from Chico. Those wins helped SSU jump UC San Diego into the region's top spot. In the final region rankings last week, UCSD was No. 1 and Sonoma No. 2. The Seawolves are led by catcher Konrad Thieme (.351, 16 HR's, 55 RBI's) and a pitching staff that has a 3.55 ERA. The complete regional field is below as a re match-ups for the first day.
