FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 6, 2002   (Updated Feb. 8, 2002)

Linemen Highlight Football
Recruiting Class

Kearney, NE — It is often said that a football team can never have enough lineman. Looking at the Class of 2006 for the University of Nebraska at Kearney, it seems head coach Darrell Morris agrees with that statement.

Of the 20 players, either freshmen or transfers, Morris added today, 15 play in the trenches (six offensive linemen, nine defensive linemen/defensive ends). Another four are linebackers with a kicker rounding out the list.

Fourteen of the new Lopers hail from Nebraska, including two each from Fremont and Eustis. As in previous years, the state of Colorado has been good to UNK. Five newcomers hail from the Rocky Mountain state including two from Fort Collins. Last fall, UNK had six players from Fort Collins on the roster.

In 2001, UNK had one of its finest seasons ever, going 8-2 and finishing 2nd in the RMAC (7-1). The team will return most of its starters and top reserves as there were only eight seniors on the 2001 roster.

Morris said he will announce the addition of several more players in the coming weeks.
