Miller Named Offensive Player of the Year
Kearney, NE - Nebraska-Kearney sophomore running back Mike Miller (Littleton, Colo.) has been named the West Region Offensive Player of the Year by D2football.com In addition, receiver Richie Ross was named the region's Co-Freshman of the Year.
A total of six Lopers made the site's West Region team. Joining Miller on the first team are senior center Steve Vecchio (Ft. Collins, Colo.) and senior kicker Henrik Juul-Nielsen (Denmark). Ross, senior offensive guard Chris Blair (Urbandale, Ia.) and senior defensive linemen Michael Cunningham (David City) were selected to the second team.
Miller rushed a school-record 333 times for a school-record 1,600 yards and 13 TD's. He had seven 100 yard game including two games of over 280 yards. Miller, who has also been named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the league in rushing and is fourth nationally in yards per game (145.4).
Last season, Miller was named D2football.com's Region Freshman of the Year. He was on the second team as well.
Ross, a redshirt freshmen from Lincoln High, had 56 catches for a school-record 1,142 yards and 10 TD's. He had five games over 100 yards including two over 200 yards. He tallied 204 yards on 10 catches in the playoff game vs. Texas A & M-Kingsville. Ross is the first Loper to have multiple 200 yard games in a season and a career.
Chris Brewer of Ft. Lewis shares F.O.Y honors with Ross. Brewer leads all of Division II in receptions (85) and TD's (18) but has only 132 more receiving yards (1,274) than Ross.
