FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 14, 2002
Kearney, NE - According to d2footballcom, the online source for NCAA Division II football, the Nebraska-Kearney football team is primed for a stellar season.
The Lopers are not only picked to win the RMAC but also to be one of the four teams from the West Region to make the 16-team Division II playoffs.
Chris Kelly, d2footbal.com's West Region columnist, states "I’ll take my hat off to Darrell Morris, who coached his rear off last year. I don’t care what kind of talent is waiting in the wings, anytime you lose nine starters on one side of the ball and improve on a 7-3 record, you’re doing something right. This year the talent is there to not only win the conference, but also to make the playoffs."
Four Lopers were named 2nd preseason All-West Region. They are senior defensive end Bryan Eakin (Bakersfield), senior center Steve Vecchio (Fort Collins, Colo.), senior LB Brian Wachtel (New Port Richey, Fla.) and sophomore RB Mike Miller (Littleton, Colo.). Miller was also selected as one of six "Super Sophomores" to watch.
The preseason power rankings are below. Go to d2football.com for more information. UNK begins its season August 29th (Thursday) at UNO.
