Five Make Daktronics Football Team

Two Lopers Earn First Team Honors

Kearney, NE - Junior tight end Joel Jacobs (Mullen, Neb.) and sophomore running back Mike Miller (Littleton, Colo.) are two of the five Nebraska-Kearney football players on the 2002 Daktronics Division II All-West Region team.

Sports Information Directors from within the region select the Daktronics all-region teams. First-team members move onto the national ballot and can earn All-American honors.

Daktronics, with headquarters in Brookings, S.D., is an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.

Jacobs and Miller each made the first team while senior center Steve Vecchio (Ft. Collins, Colo.), senior guard Chris Blair (Urbandale, Ia.) and senior kicker Henrik Juul-Nielsen (Denmark) earned second team honors.

Of the 50 players to make the team, 10 came from the RMAC. UNK had half the selections, followed by Chadron State (two) and one each from Adams State, Fort Lewis and Colorado School of Mines.

Miller rushed a school-record 333 times for a school-record 1,600 yards and 13 TD's. He had seven 100 yard game including two games of over 280 yards. Miller, the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the league in rushing and is fourth nationally in yards per game (145.4).

A two-time first-team All-RMAC selection, Jacobs made 19 catches for 226 yards and three TD's in 2002.  In his career, he has made 39 catches for 395 yards and six TD's.
