Led Division II in Field Goals
Kearney, NE - He may be from Denmark but Nebraska-Kearney senior kicker Henrik Juul-Nielsen is an All-American. The native of Hvidovre, a town located near Copenhagen, was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II All-American football team today. The squad is made up of players from NCAA Division II and NAIA schools.
There is only one team picked by the AFCA so this is one of the most prestigious awards a Division II player can earn. The AFCA has picked various All-American teams since 1945. Nielsen is just the third Loper to make an AFCA team, following Mitch Johnson (1976) and Doug Peterson (1978).
Nielsen, who spent two years at Trenton High School, made 20 of 24 field this year, including all seven he from 40 yards or more. He was 37 of 40 extra points to finish the year with 97 points, the most ever by a UNK kicker and the most by a Loper in 32 years. Nielsen also led Division II in field goals made and field goals made per game (1.8).
A three-year starter and a two-time first-team All-RMAC selection, Nielsen finished his career with 235 points, third most in school history. He made 36 of 49 field goals and was almost automatic on PAT's, (127 of 132).
