FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 28, 2002
Two on First Team
Kearney, NE - The Nebraska-Kearney football team is well represented on The Football Gazette's Preseason All-American team, which was released yesterday.
The long-running publication, also known as Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette, has covered small college football for many years.
Earning first-team All-American honors are senior center Steve Vecchio (Fort Collins, Colo.) and kicker Henrik Juul-Nielsen (Hvidorve, Denmark).
Last fall, Nielsen earned honorable All-American honors from the magazine after leading the RMAC in every kicking category. Vecchio made an immediate impact after transferring from Northern Colorado.
Senior linebacker Brian Wachtel (New Port Richey, Fla.) and sophomore running back Mike Miller (Littleton, Colo.) earned third-team preseason honors while senior defensive end Bryan Eakin (Bakersfield, Calif.) and sophomore wide receiver Allen Burrell (Aurora, Colo.) earned honorable mention recognition.
The 17th-ranked Lopers begin their 2002 season tomorrow night at No. 11 UNO.
The complete team can be found at www.donhansen.com
