Kearney, NE – The
honors and accolades for the Nebraska-Kearney football team keep rolling
in this preseason. The most recent publication to predict a strong 2003
campaign is Sports Illustrated.
In “SI’s” College
Football Preview edition, out today, the Lopers are ranked sixth in the
magazine’s NCAA Division II poll. As in previous years, only 10 teams are
ranked.
UNK is one of three West
Region teams in the top 10, following top ranked Central Washington and
No. 5 Texas A & M-Kingsville.
The Lopers have already
been ranked 11th in Street & Smith’s and Don Hansen’s
Football Gazette preseason polls. Also, UNK is 16th in
Lindy’s College Football magazine.
Over 100 players
reported to fall camp yesterday with the team going through physical
testing – hang clean, vertical jump etc. – today and then again tomorrow.
The Lopers first practice, lasting one hour, was this afternoon. The team
will divide into “veteran” and “developmental” squads over the next few
days of practice.
