'03 Football Schedule, Captains Released
Lopers to Open Up Against Mavericks
Kearney, NE - The Nebraska-Kearney 2003 football schedule has a very familiar ring to it as the Lopers will play the same 10 teams they’ve faced the past four seasons. And for the second straight year, UNK will open its season up against in-state rival Nebraska-Omaha.
The Lopers and Mavericks will begin the 2003 campaign at Foster Field on Thursday, August 28th, at 7:00 p.m. It will mark the first of two straight night games for UNK. The following Saturday (September 6th), UNK will play at Wayne State at 6:00 p.m.
Homecoming will take place on October 4th against Adams State. That will be just the Lopers second home game as all three September dates are on the road. Like this past season, UNK has two off weeks (September 13th and November 15th). The NCAA Division II playoffs start November 22nd.
Head coach Darrell Morris also announced the team's captains, voted on by the players, for the upcoming year. Leading the Lopers will be senior offensive tackle Ryan Bachman (Ponca), senior linebacker Jesse Calabretto (Gretna), senior tight end Joel Jacobs (Mullen), junior linebacker Akil Davis (Aurora, Colo.) and junior running back Mike Miller (Littleton, Colo.). Calabretto and Davis will be co-captains for the second time in their careers.
