Brosz, Poynter Academic All-DistrictLopers Strong Athletically, Academically Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney juniors Erin Brosz (Grand Island) and James Poynter (Plainview) have each been named to their respective sports College Division Academic All-District VII team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Both were second-team selections. Brosz is one of the Lopers starting middle hitters while Poynter recently finished his second year as one of UNK’s starting offensive tackles. Brosz carries a 3.89 GPA as an Elementary Education major with Poynter maintaining a 3.32 GPA in Business Administration. Brosz currently leads the No. 1 ranked Lopers in blocks at 1.22 per game while being third in kills at 2.87 per set. She ranks in the top 10 nationally in attack percentage at .418. A two-time All-RMAC pick, Poynter started all 11 games this year, despite a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Due to the injury, he moved from right tackle to left tackle about halfway through the season. Ten states make up District VII while the College Division features Division II and III schools. To be nominated for the team, a student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.20. CoSIDA sponsors Academic All-District/All-American teams in seven sports, plus has an at-large team that is picked in the spring.
