Football Picked Third

Ross Preseason P.O.Y.

Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney football team has been picked to finish third in the RMAC preseason poll, which was released this afternoon.

The league’s nine head coaches selected the poll, along with the preseason team.

UNK tallied 23 points, well ahead of fourth place Fort Hays State (34). Defending champion Mesa State edged out Chadron State, 12 to 13, to take the poll’s top spot. The Mavericks also received six first place votes, compared to three for the Eagles.

Behind Hays was Colorado School of Mines (35), Adams State and Western State (44 each), Fort Lewis (57) and New Mexico Highlands (62).

Not surprisingly, Lincoln junior receiver Richie Ross was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He earned the honor last fall after making 75 catches for 1,482 yards and 11 TD’s.

Also making the preseason team were senior running back Mike Miller (Littleton, Colo.), senior receiver Garth Mins (Lexington) and junior right tackle James Poynter (Plainveiw).

Adam McGurk, an Adams State junior linebacker, was selected as the Defensive Preseason P.O.Y. while Western State senior kicker/punter Travis Snyder was tabbed as the league’s special teams P.O.Y.
