Wiltgen Joins Football

Loper Adds Hometown Product

Kearney, NE – Nebraska-Kearney head football coach Darrell Morris announced today that Kearney Catholic standout Brice Wiltgen has signed a national letter of intent to join the Lopers next season.

Wiltgen joins 15 other high school seniors that have committed to the UNK program. In addition, UNK has three transfers that are already taking part in winter conditioning drills.

Wiltgen (5-11, 180 lbs.) projects to be a free safety at the collegiate level. This past fall, the Nebraska Associated Press named him to its Class C-1 All-State team (honorable mention).

Hampered by injuries in 2003, he appeared in nine games, rushing for 929 yards. He averaged 103.2 yards per game and scored 11 touchdowns.

As a junior, Wiltgen led the Stars to the Class C-1 state quarterfinals, rushing for 1,234 yards, averaging 102.8 yards per game and scoring 14 touchdowns.

Defensively, he averaged 13 tackles per game and had three interceptions.

Wiltgen also is standout on the Stars on the basketball and soccer teams.

"We think Brice has a lot of upside and is the kind of player that will get bigger and more explosive once he joins our program," Morris said.

Morris added he will announce the addition of some more incoming freshman in the coming weeks.
