Men's Basketball Scores 70…in a Half

Lopers Score 70 in First Half

Kearney, NE – The 8th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney men's basketball team shot a season-high 62.7 percent from the field, including a 78.8 percent in the first half, in a 111-63 rout of Western State Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.

UNK (13-1, 6-1 RMAC) pushes its home court streak to 27 straight games while WSC falls to 2-12 (1-6 RMAC).

Last night, the Lopers came out hot and led Colorado-Colorado Springs 58-12 at the break. UNK was white hot tonight, leading 70-29 at the intermission.

UNK made 26 of 33 field goal attempts in the first half, including an 8 of 10 effort from the three point line and, for good measure, 10 of 13 free throws. The Lopers cooled off in the second half  (47.1) but still made 42 of 67 shots for the game.

All nine healthy players scored and logged at least 18 minutes of game action. Six players were in double figures, led by North Platte senior forward Nick Branting (24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals, two blocks), who was four assists shy of a triple double. He did that despite playing just 22 minutes.

Utah junior swing man Will Taukiuvea made three triples en route to an 18 point night, Columbus freshman Dusty Jura was 7 of 7 from the field to score his 16 points while reserves Matt Jenkins, Jacob Mohs and Cameron Lollar each scored 12 points.

Bly McGuire led the Mountaineers with 11 points and nine rebounds.

UNK hosts Mornignside Monday night at 7:30 p.m. before 11th-ranked Metro State comes to Kearney Wednesday.
