Men's Basketball Rolls over ChadronLopers Hit 15 Threes Kearney, NE – Playing their fifth game in seven days, the 6th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney men's basketball team hit 15 three pointers, two shy of the school record, in a 105-60 rout of Chadron State Thursday night at the Health & Sports Center. UNK (15-2, 7-2 RMAC) bounces back from its loss to 8th-ranked Metro State last night while the Eagles are now 7-10 (3-6 RMAC) on the year. The Lopers took control of things very early in the first half. Ahead 11-6 at the 16:11 mark, UNK went on a 19-4 run over the next six minutes to lead by 20. Chadron wouldn't get closer than 18 points the rest of the night. During that decisive run, the Eagles made only 2 of 15 shots from the field. UNK's defense held Chadron to 20.5 percent shooting (8 of 38) in the first half, including a 0 of 11 mark from the three point line. For the game, the Lopers also converted 21 Eagle turnovers into 34 points. Utah junior swingman Will Taukiuvea hit his first eight shots from the field to score 19 of his team-high 22 points in the first half. Five other Lopers were in double digits with Grand Island senior Brian Dunagan scoring 13 of his 19 points in the first half. He was one of four different Lopers to make at least three triples in the game. North Platte senior Jacob Mohs had 13 second half points to finish with 16, Columbus freshman Dusty Jura had 11 of his 15 points in the first half while Iowa sophomore Matt Jenkins had 11 points after half time to tally 14 for the game. Finally, North Platte senior Nick Branting, a bit under the weather, had 15 points and six rebounds. UNK was red hot from down town after intermission, making 10 of 17 three point shots. Earlier this year in a win over New Mexico Highlands, the Lopers sunk 17 treys to set a new school standard. Four different Eagles tallied at least 10 points, including Grand Island senior Jeremy Wissing. The blue and gold is off until next Friday at Colorado Christian. |
