Men’s Basketball Falls to Huskers

Two Seniors Combine for 42 points

            Kearney, Neb. – Guard Jason Dourisseau scored 20 points and was one of four Nebraska Cornhuskers in double figures as UNL beat Nebraska-Kearney, 84-71, in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.

            After trailing 7-0 right off the bat, UNL scored the next 13 points and never looked back. The Huskers led 48-32 at halftime on the strength of 50 percent three point shooting (7 of 14).

            The Huskers also out rebounded the Lopers, 50-36, in the game, including a 16-13 edge on the offensive glass.

            A junior from Omaha, Douriseeau sunk 7 of 10 shots from the field and was one of six Huskers to grab at least five rebounds in the game (six). He had 16 of his 20 points in the first half.

            Seniors Will Taukiuvea (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Marty Levinson (Bellevue) led the Lopers as each tallied 21 points.

            Taukiuvea was 6 of 13 from the field and 7 of 10 at the line. He also had three assists and two steals in 34 minutes of work.

            Levinson was 7 of 15 from the floor, including a solid 5 of 10 effort from the three-point line. He also had a team-high six assists and zero turnovers in 33 minutes.

            UNK’s starting front court of junior Chris Dean (LaVerne, Calif.) and sophomores Dusty Jura (Columbus) and Chad Burger (Colo. Springs, Colo.) were in foul trouble all day long and each ended the contest by fouling out.

            Dean did have 13 points (7 of 11 at the line) and seven boards in 28 minutes.

            Also for the Huskers, guard Marcus Neal had 18 points and Corey Simms and Joe McCray had 16 points a piece.

            UNL, which finished with 10 made triples in the game, shot 47 percent from the field while holding the Lopers to 35.9 percent.

            UNK opens the regular season Monday night vs. UNO.
