The one-time grants of $ 7,500 each are awarded for fall, winter, and spring sports. Each sports season there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women. The scholarships are one-time, nonrenewable grants.

Of the 29 male winners in the winter, Branting was one of just six basketball players to earn the award.

Branting has won many awards this season, including being named the Division II Player of the Year and the College Division Academic All-American of the Year.
