Basketball Teams 2nd Seed in 2008 RMAC TournamentRangers, Mavericks to Visit Friday Night
Kearney, Neb. – Both Nebraska-Kearney basketball teams will be the second seed in the 2008 RMAC Tournament. The
eight-team event begins this Friday (Feb. 29th) with first
round games at campus sites. The RMAC Shootout will then be held March
7-8th (Fri.-Sat.) in Pueblo, Colo.
The UNK women (24-5, 17-2 RMAC) will host Regis (14-13, 10-9 RMAC) at 6:00 p.m. The game will be followed by the Loper men (15-12, 13-6 RMAC) playing Mesa State (13-13, 10-9 RMAC) at 8:00 p.m. At the same time, the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be going on down the hall in Cushing Coliseum. Tickets for the basketball games are $ 6.00 (adults) and $ 3.00 (seniors 60 + and students K-12th grade). In addition, children five and under will be admitted for free with the first 200 UNK students, with valid student ID, getting for free as well. After those 200 tickets go, UNK students will have to pay $ 3.00. As in previous years, all seats will be general admission; UNK season tickets and RMAC passes are not good for this event. Tickets will go sale in the UNK athletic ticket office Monday, Feb. 25th, at 12:00 p.m. The UNK women just beat Regis, 85-75, this past Thursday at the Health & Sports Center. The Lopers also beat the Rangers in Denver, 90-81. UNK is aiming to the win the RMAC Tournament for the first time since the 2003-04 season. On the men’s side, the Lopers got an assist from Colorado School of Mines Saturday night to tie for the East Division crown with Colorado Christian. The Orediggers handed CCU a 77-74 setback, the third straight loss for the Cougars. UNK earned the second seed by beating Christian twice during the regular season. In December, UNK won at Mesa State, 78-74. Two years ago, the Lopers won the RMAC Tournament for just the second time in school history. UNK advanced to the semifinals last year but was beaten by Adams State in overtime, 97-90. |
