Beranek Tabbed by Street & Smith's

Central Region Will Represented

Kearney, Neb. Nebraska-Kearney junior forward Drake Beranek has been tabbed a preseason All-American by Street & Smith’s magazine.

The 6-4 Ravenna native averaged 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game last year while shooting 48 percent from the field and 49 percent from the three point line. He also had 13 double doubles, including a 41-point, 15-rebound game vs. Metro State.

Not surprisingly, Beranek was recently named the 2008-09 Preseason RMAC Player of the Year.

Other Central region players tabbed as honorable mention preseason All-Americans include Craig Heiman of Concordia-St. Paul, Jake Morrow of Minnesota State, Matt Schneck of St. Cloud State, Brian Sykora of Minnesota-Duluth and Jesse Wagstaff of Metro State.

The magazine’s preseason top 10 is led by South Carolina-Aiken, Findlay (Ohio) and Gannon (Pa.). No Central region teams are ranked.

UNK has its first official practice next Wednesday (Oct. 15). The Lopers do not have a scheduled exhibition game this season; they’ll begin the regular season at home Nov. 17th vs. Nebraska-Omaha.
