Men's Golf Sitting in 9th Place at Hays

    Kearney, Neb. –  The Nebraska-Kearney men's golf team shot a 312 to sit in ninth place after the first day of the Fort Hays State Invitational in Kansas.

      The 36-hole, 12-team tournament is being played at the par 71 Smoky Hill Country Club.

      Just 23 strokes separates the first and 11^th place teams. Central Missouri leads (292), with Washburn and Truman State tied for second (294). UNK is one stroke behind Pittsburg State and five behind the host Tigers.

      Junior Andy Bednar (Sioux Falls, S.D.) leads the Lopers with a three over par 74 (40-34), good for a 12^th place tie. His round included 13 pars.

      Chirs Kovach of Truman is in first place with a two under par 69 (35-34).

      Also for the Lopers, Ogallala senior Brett Theiler is tied for 32^nd (78; 37-41), Broken Bow junior Preston Foster is tied for 40^th (79; 42-37), Omaha sophomore Justin Onken is tied for 54^th (81; 40-41) and Kansas junior Grant Babcock is tied for 63^rd (84; 44-40).
