Men's Golf Sitting in 9th Place at Hays

Bednar Has 13 Pars

       

    Kearney, Neb. –  The Nebraska-Kearney men's golf team shot a 312 to sit in ninth place after the first day of the Fort Hays State Invitational in Kansas.

      The 36-hole, 12-team tournament is being played at the par 71 Smoky Hill Country Club.

      Just 23 strokes separates the first and 11th place teams. Central Missouri leads (292), with Washburn and Truman State tied for second (294). UNK is one stroke behind Pittsburg State and five behind the host Tigers.

      Junior Andy Bednar (Sioux Falls, S.D.) leads the Lopers with a three over par 74 (40-34), good for a 12th place tie. His round included 13 pars.

      Chirs Kovach of Truman is in first place with a two under par 69 (35-34).

      Also for the Lopers, Ogallala senior Brett Theiler is tied for 32nd (78; 37-41), Broken Bow junior Preston Foster is tied for 40th (79; 42-37), Omaha sophomore Justin Onken is tied for 54th (81; 40-41) and Kansas junior Grant Babcock is tied for 63rd (84; 44-40).

      The final round begins Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.. Complete first round are available HERE.
