Men's Golf Finishes 11th at Hays Tournament

Bednar Ties For 32nd Place

       

    Kearney, Neb. –  The Nebraska-Kearney men's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 636 to finish in 11th place at the Fort Hays State Invitational in Kansas.

      The12-team tournament was played Monday and Tuesday at the par 71 Smoky Hill Country Club.

      This was the Lopers final tournament of the fall.

      UNK shot a 312 on Monday to be in ninth place. Coming into today just seven strokes out of fifth place, the Lopers fired a 324 to slide two spots in the final standings. Colorado School of Mines (688) was 12th with Oklahoma Panhandle State (630) 10th and Southwest Baptist of Missouri ninth (617).

      Washburn (576) won the tournament by two strokes over Central Missouri. Missouri Western State (598) was third and Truman State fourth (600).

      Junior Andy Bednar (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tied for 32nd place (155/74-81) to lead the Lopers. Matt Ewald of Washburn was the medallist with a eight under par 174 (71-63).

      Also for the Lopers,  Kansas junior Grant Babcock tied for 38th (157/84-73), Broken Bow junior Preston Foster tied for 59th (163/79-84), Ogallala senior Brett Theiler came in 61st place (164/78-86) and Omaha sophomore Justin Onken finished 63rd (168/81-87).

      UNK will tee it up again in March 2008.
