Men's Golf in 6th Place after First Day of Super RegionalsHadenfeldt One Stroke Off Lead
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men’s golf team shot an opening round total of 309 and sits in the sixth place after the first day of the 2008 Northwest/West Super Regional in Petaluma, Calif. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Sonoma State University and being played at the par 72 Adobe Creek Golf Course. This is the first phase of the NCAA Division II Championships. There are five “Super Regionals” being played this week, encompassing 10 regions. The ten regional winners automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, May 14-17 in Houston. An additional 10 teams from “Super Regionals” will receive at-large bids to the NCAA’s. In the eight-team Northwest Region, UNK currently sits five strokes behind fifth place Colorado Christian and is 11 strokes back of third place Western New Mexico. Colorado-Colorado Springs and Minnesota State lead the way, each shooting 296. Individually, Gering sophomore Max Hadenfeldt had four birdies on the front nine and leads the Lopers with a one over par 73, good for a sixth place tie. He is just one stroke off the lead, which is being set by five players. Next, South Dakota junior Andy Bednar is tied for 20th (77) with Kearney sophomore Alex Farrell one stroke and five places back. Rounding out the Lopers lineup is Broken Bow junior Preston Foster (T-34th/81) and Ord sophomore Devon Kastler (T-44th/87). On the same course, 2nd-ranked Sonoma State leads the West Regional with a three under par 285. SSU is just one of seven teams in the West to be nationally-ranked. | ||
