Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men’s golf team shot a 54-hole total of 942 to place seventh out of 15 schools at the NSIC/RMAC Fall Invite in Hastings, Minn.

The two-day tournament was hosted by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference at the Hastings Country Club.

This event and an identical one in the spring go a long way in determining which schools will qualify for “Super Regionals” in May.  UNK has made seven straight Super Regional trips, the first phase of the NCAA Division II Championships.

On Monday, UNK had rounds of 321 and 309 to sit in sixth place. The Lopers fired a 312 Tuesday to finish just 12 strokes out of third place and four strokes behind fourth place Bemidji State.

Minnesota State (912) won and was well ahead of runner up Western New Mexico (920) and St. Cloud State in third place (930).

Kearney junior Alex Farrell tied for seventh place with a 13 over par 229 (78-73-78). Jim Knous of Colorado School of Minesand Beau Anderson of St. Cloud tied for first place, each shooting a 225.

Farrell recorded one of the tournament's 10 eagles; he also was among the tournament scoring leaders on par five holes (4.75/-3).

Just four strokes separated the next four UNK golfers. The group included Ord junior Devon Kastler (T-30th/238), Broken Bow senior Preston Foster (T-34th/239), Gering junior Max Hadenfeldt (T-39th/241) and Lincoln freshman Justin Stonacek (42nd/242).

Kastler was among the tourney par leaders (32), as well as the scoring leaders on par four holes (4.33/+10).

This Friday at the Kearney Country Club, the Loper Cup will be played. It pairs the current golf team vs. the UNK golf alumni.
