Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team shot an 36-hole total of 679 to place fifth at the Quality Inn Maverick/RMAC Fall Invite # 2 in Grand Junction, Colo.
The 10-team tournament was played at the par 71 Tia Rado G.C.
UNK shot a 351 on Monday to be tied for fifth with Adams State but shot an impressive 328 Tuesday. However, overall scores dropped nearly two full strokes in the second round and the Lopers total score put them 11 strokes behind fourth place Mesa State.
Fort Hays State was the tournament winner (655) with Montana State-Billings runner up (665) and Western New Mexico third (666). Both Hays and MSUB are affiliated members of the RMAC in women's golf.
After being co-medalist in her first collegiate tournament, Hastings freshman Sara Wissing shot a six over par 77 on Tuesday to tie for sixth place overall (164).
Kiley Johnson of Hays won the tournament with a 17 over par 159 (80-79).
Also for UNK, Kearney senior Megan Marshall tied for 13th (166/86-80), Beatrice freshman Marni Stuart was 25th (174/91-83), Norfolk freshman Nicole Erwin was 26th (175/87-88) and Grant sophomore Emily Carlson tied for 41st (189/98-91)
The Lopers head to Wayne Friday for an 18-hole tournament hosted by the Wildcats. That tournament wasn't on the original fall schedule.
