Brackets Released for 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships

UNK won the national title in 2008
Kearney, Neb. - The brackets have been released for next weekend's NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Omaha.

The two-day tournament will be held at Sapp Fieldhouse on the campus of Nebraska-Omaha. The complete brackets are available HERE.

The host Mavericks are aiming to defend their national title and win the top prize for the fifth time in the last seven years.

UNO is the only school in the field with 10 qualifiers. St. Cloud State comes in with eight while six schools will each have seven wrestlers competing.

The 7th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team -- aiming for a 9th straight top 10 finish -- has qualified six individuals, four with national tourney experience and two making their first-ever NCAA Division II appearance.

Leading off at 133 lbs. for UNK will be senior Joey Morrison. A 2009 All-American, Morrison (32-12, team-best 14 falls) has the task of facing No. 1 ranked Cody Garcia of UNO in the 1st round.

Garcia is currently 45-0 and a two-time national champion. He has won the last three matches with Morrison, dating back to last year.

Sophomore T.J. Hepburn (East Hampton, Conn.), a 2008 junior college All-American, will be in the NCAA's for the first time. Ranked fourth nationally, he currently sports a 39-8 record.

He'll face Travis Elg of Minnesota State (11-14) in the opening round. The two didn't face each other this season.

Imperial senior Taylor May (19-8), a 2009 All-American, will face Pittsburgh-Johnstown's Kyle Keane (28-8) in round one. Keane is currently ranked 3rd nationally and beat May, 6-4, last season.

Top-ranked Marty Usman (174 lbs.) enters the tourney with a 40-1 mark and is a two-time All-American. He'll face a familiar foe in Minnesota State's Ben Becker (20-15). Usman majored Becker, 10-2, last season at the National Duals.

At 184 lbs, 2008 All-American Derek Ross faces Jeff Havelka (22-16) of Findlay. One win shy of 100 for his career, Ross (29-15) didn't face Havelka when the Lopers beat the Oilers in a January dual.

Finally, Sutherland sophomore Justin McKain (197 lbs.) is in the NCAA's for the first time. Coming in with a 25-20 mark, he'll face Shane Nolan of North Carolina-Pembroke (22-11) right off the bat.
