Tobey Breaks Shot Record as Rain Alters NCAA Track Schedule

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney junior thrower Dane Tobey broke his own school-record in the shot put Friday night at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Charlotte, N.C.

The rains came on the second day of the three-day meet and the men's shot sustained a 2 1/2 hour delay. Before the weather ended all the days activities, Tobey grabbed the lead in the shot with a throw of 62-7.25.

On May 10th, he set a new school-record with a throw of 61-0. 25.

The event will be completed sometime on Saturday. Because of the weather, the women's shot -- featuring Lopers Sam Murphy and Kiley Peterson -- never took place on Friday. That will also be held on Saturday.

Depending on the weather, times for the men's discus (Tobey) and men's triple jump (Marty Molina) on Saturday might be altered as well.
