Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney junior thrower
Dane Tobey broke his own school-record in the shot put Friday night at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
The rains came on the second day of the three-day meet and the men's shot sustained a 2 1/2 hour delay. Before the weather ended all the days activities, Tobey grabbed the lead in the shot with a throw of 62-7.25.
On May 10th, he set a new school-record with a throw of 61-0. 25.
The event will be completed sometime on Saturday. Because of the weather, the women's shot -- featuring Lopers Sam Murphy and Kiley Peterson -- never took place on Friday. That will also be held on Saturday.
Depending on the weather, times for the men's discus (Tobey) and men's triple jump (
Marty Molina) on Saturday might be altered as well.
