Tobey Tabbed as Division II's Top Male Field Athlete of the Year

New Orleans, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday that Dane Tobey of Nebraska at Kearney and Aisha Adams of Angelo State (Texas) are the National Division II Field Athletes of the Year for the 2010 outdoor season.

The winners are chosen by a vote of the nation's Division II head coaches. On Wednesday, Leford Green of Johnson C. Smith (N.C.) and Jessica Pixler Seattle Pacific (Wash.) were tabbed as the Track Athletes of the Year for the outdoor season.

Tobey (Waco) has exhausted his eligibility for the indoor season but will compete for the Lopers during the 2011 outdoor season.

In 2010, Tobey won the national championship in the shot put by over three feet with a third-round, school-best toss of 62-7.25. Tobey also ended the season as the divisional leader in the discus, achieving a school-record mark of 186-10 in early May. At the NCAA meet, he finished ninth in the event.

Tobey also was the RMAC Champion in the discus and shot as well as the Drake Relays College Division shot  champion. Finally, at the RMAC meet, the Centennial High grad also scored team points in the hammer and javelin, helping UNK edge Adams State to take home the team title.

This summer, Tobey is hoping to compete in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, slated for June 23-27 at Drake (Des Moines, Ia.).
