UNO Swims past Aqualopers

Mavericks Pick Up Dual Win

            Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Omaha women’s swimming and diving team claimed a 126-95 victory over Nebraska-Kearney Friday night at UNK’s Cushing Pool. UNO improves to 6-2 while the Aqualopers fall to 1-2.

             Scottsbluff freshman Becky Tompkins picked up two of the five UNK victories  She won both the 200 breaststroke (2:47.91) and 400 individual medley (5:16.12). Tompkins also placed third in the 200 fly in a time of 2:37.89, the best time turned in by any Aqualoper in that event this year.

             Kansas junior Kristina Jegel won the 500 free (5:56.05) with Lincoln sophomore Katie Wenz bringing home the gold in the 100 fly (1:10.34). The 200 free relay team of sophomores Amanda Florence (Papillion), Heather Ginther (Garden City, Kans.), Tricia Hayes (Dodge City Kans.) and Jillian Woltman (Louisville, Colo.) won the final event of the dual in 2:04.42.

            Also for UNK, Colorado sophomore Jesslyn Hackman placed second in the 200 free (2:12.36) with Woltman finishing runner up in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.82).

            UNK is off until the weekend of January 16-17 when they travel to Iowa to compete in the Grinnell College Invite.
