Young Team Begins New Season

Kearney, Neb. –  The Nebraska-Kearney women’s swimming & diving team began its 2008-09 season a bit earlier then usually with a Friday night dual at Nebraska-Omaha.

The early season dual saw the Mavericks defeat the Aqualopers, 101-77.

A very young UNK team saw diver Annie Moyer (Lincoln East) place second on both the one meter board (179.25) points) and at three meters (209.30).

Earlier this week, Moyer was named the RMAC Women’s Preseason Diver of the Year.

At one meters, freshman Jourdan McKevery (Wichita, Kan.) tallied 175.80 points to place third and beat out one UNO diver.

In the pool, freshman Mandi Scheerer (Lincoln East) placed ninth in the 100 butterfly (1:06.19) while South Dakota freshman Heather Glodt was 10th in the 50 free (26.70).

Glodt was also ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.06), 11th in the 100 free (59.65) and 12th in the 200 individual medley (2:32.76). Finally, she swam the first leg for the 200 free relay team that placed first (1:52,58).

UNK will face Metro State and Colorado College October 24th in Denver.
