Tennis Splits with Prairie Wolves

Loper Men Remain Perfect

            Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams split a dual with Nebraska Wesleyan Friday afternoon at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds, the men winning, 6-3, and the women falling, 5-4. 

            UNK improves to 3-0 on the men's side while the Loper women are 2-1. Both NWU teams are 3-4. 

            The Lopers led after men's doubles, 2-1, thanks to a 9-7 victory by Columbus junior Tyson Thomas and Omaha sophomore Luke Backhaus at No. 2 doubles. 

            Thomas (No. 5) and Backhaus (No. 5) each won their singles matches, along with Kearney junior Chad Malone (No. 2) and Grand Island sophomore Nate Wiegand (No. 4).

            The UNK women, who nipped Hastings 5-4 the past two Friday's, came up on the short end this time. Wesleyan trailed 2-1 after doubles play but won No. 1 through 4 singles to claim the dual win.

            North Platte junior Lindsey LaShell won at No. 5 singles and then teamed with Kansas sophomore Jamie Dusin to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

            UNK's other win in singles play came from Japanese student Shizuka Iwatsuki (No. 6).

            The Loper women play at UNO tomorrow morning with both teams scheduled to host St. Cloud State March 4th.
