Men's Tennis Gets Key Regional WinLopers Beat Huskies; Mustangs Next
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men's team picked up a big North Central Region win this past Sunday (April 20th) in Omaha by beating St. Cloud State, 6-3. The Lopers improve to 12-4 and continue to solidify there chances of making the NCAA Tournament (May 9-10) for the fifth straight year. The Huskies, from the North Central Conference, fall to 16-9. The UNK women were supposed to face SCSU as well but the Huskies, instead, had to play UNO in a makeup NCC dual. In doubles, UNK picked up a big win when the No. 2 team of sophomore Drew Mercier (Omaha Westside) and Stefan Voigt (Red Wing, Minn..) edged their St. Cloud rivals by a 9-7 score. This pair are now 12-3 on the year. Up 2-1, UNK then won four of the six singles matches. In the No. 5 spot, Voigt managed a thrilling 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) victory over Kevin Bauleke while Mercier easily beat Mike Master in the No. 2 spot (6-3, 6-4). Finally, senior and No. 1 player William Jacome (Miami, Fla.) won his singles match 6-1, 6-1. Both UNK teams host Western New Mexico Thursday afternoon at Harmon Park in a dual that will determine seeding for the RMAC Tournament. The first serve will be at 12:30 p.m. |
