Men's Tennis Beats Western, Top Seed in RMAC's

Women Win Too; Fourth Seed

     

       Kearney, Neb. The Nebraska-Kearney men's tennis team wrapped up a fourth straight RMAC regular season title by beating Western New Mexico, 6-3, Thursday afternoon at Harmon Park.

      On the women's side, the UNK women (9-10) beat the Mustangs by a 8-1 score.

      For the Loper men (11-4), the win helps them tie Metro State for the league's best dual mark this year (5-1). UNK earns the No. 1 seed in this weekend's RMAC Tournament thanks to a 5-4 win over the Roadrunners.

      In the last three years, UNK has won the regular season title outright.

      The Loper men will play again this Saturday at 8:00 a.m. against the winner of fourth-seed Mesa State and fifth-seed Montana State-Billings. Those two schools play tomorrow at Harmon at 11:00 a.m.          

      Against the Mustangs today, UNK got another dominating performance from three-time RMAC Player of the Year William Jacome.

      The lefty won his singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Rafael Catay and paired up with fellow senior Andres Espinosa to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

      On the women's side, UNK will be the fourth seed this weekend and play fifth-seed Metro State tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. The match will be played at Harmon.  With a win, the Lopers would face top-seed MSU-Billings at 5:00 p.m.

      Today, UNK dominated the Mustangs. Sophomore Mary Outhwaite (W. Australia) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles with Kara Deyle (Kearney) winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

      Also, Bellevue senior McKenna Irwin came through with narrow a win at No. 3 singles; 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9).
