Entering his seventh season as head track and field coach at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Andy Meyer has more than continued the Lopers' strong tradition in the sport.

The Nebraska native led the program for the 1999 and 2000 seasons before returning to UNK in 2002.

Under Meyer's leadership, the Loper men have won four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) indoor titles with the women claiming two RMAC outdoor titles. In addition, the Loper men have had two runner up finishes (outdoor) and the women eight second place efforts (four indoors, four outdoors).

On the national scene, the Lopers are among the deepest and strongest squads every year. UNK is always among the top rated teams in the Division II Coaches Association  national power rankings with both squads having been ranked No. 1 in the nation in Meyer's tenure.

Individually, Meyer has seen 42 different Lopers win 93 RMAC titles. At the NCAA Championships, UNK has had 25 different individuals earn All-American honors in at least one event in Meyer’s tenure. That includes five national champions and four national runners up.

For his success, Meyer has been named RMAC Coach of the Year six times and been a nominee for region Coach of the Year honors.

That includes the 2003 season, when UNK won its sixth straight RMAC men's indoor title and second consecutive women's outdoor crown. Four Lopers earned All-American honors at the 2003 indoor championships and five earned the honor at the 2003 outdoor championships.

Prior coming to UNK, Meyer was an assistant strength coach at his alma mater, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. A 1994 graduate of UNL with a degree in agriculture business, Meyer was a standout on the Huskers track and field team.

A three-time All-American in the discus, he placed fourth in the event in both his junior and senior seasons at the NCAA Championships. At the Big 8 Conference championships, Meyer won the discus title three straight years.

Meyer also was an All-American in the shot put and was a two-time Big 8 champion in the event. As a senior, he was named to the Phillips 66 Academic All-Big 8 team.

One of Meyer’s athletic highlights was competing at the 1993 USA Track & Field championships with his brother, Rick. Both finished among the top eight in the discus. Meyer then finished eighth at the 1995 USA Championships and competed in the 1996 Olympic Trials.

Meyer lives in Superior with his wife Peg, a former UNL volleyball player, and their four daughters; Alexandria, Leah, Kalynn and Shayla.
