Coleman, Boettcher
Tabbed as Top Student-Athletes

Highest Award in RMAC

Kearney, NE – University of Nebraska at Kearney seniors Janet Boettcher and Justin Coleman have been named the Lopers' top student-athletes for the 2000-01 academic year.

For the past eight years, the RMAC has sponsored the Scholar Athlete Award program for each season. To be eligible, a candidate must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better; must have participated at the school for two or more semesters in at least one sport; must have earned a letter; and must be a starter or key reserve.

In addition, the most outstanding scholar-athlete (male and female at each school) receives the RMAC Honor Student-Athlete Award. The award is the highest academic achievement for a student-athlete in the conference

A total of 31 Lopers made the spring Academic All-RMAC team. For the 2000-01 year, 70 different Loper student-athletes were named to the academic team.

Coleman holds a 3.297 GPA as a criminal justice major while Boettcher graduated with a 3.38 mark in Elementary Education.

Coleman, only the second football player earn the award (Chad Vokoun, 1995-96), is the first Loper, male or female, to win the award twice. Boettcher is the first track athlete to win the award.

Both are among the most decorated athletes in UNK history. Coleman finished his career with six NCAA Division II records, 15 UNK marks and was 2nd in the balloting for the Harlon Hill Trophy this past year.

Boettcher, a 13-time All-American, owns two school records and was the 2000 national champion in the hammer throw. This past year, she earned All-American honors four times and won a total of three RMAC titles.
