Track Sending Group
to Drake Relays

Three Relay Teams, One Individual to Compete

            Kearney, NE – The University of Nebraska at Kearney track team well have several representatives at the prestigious Drake Relays, held this weekend in Des Moines, Ia.     

            The one individual to compete will be Kearney junior Leah Lewis. She will participate in the triple jump, beginning at 11:45 a.m. Friday morning. Lewis currently ranks 13th in Division II with a leap of 38-5.5.

            Three men's relay teams -- 4 x 100, 4 x 200 and sprint medley -- will also be go going. In the 4 x 100, the team is made up of senior Joel Janecek (Gering) and freshmen Garth Mins (Lexington), Scott Schukar (Loomis) and Clark Spanel (Grand Island). Prelims are Friday at 10:35 a.m. with the finals slated for 2:50 p.m. Saturday.

            The team for the 4 x 200 is almost identical, with the only change being senior Ryan Bedlan (Shickley) replacing Spanel. Prelim time for this event is 8:45 a.m. on Friday. The finals are held at 4:30 p.m.

            For the sprint medley (200-200-400-800), senior Joe Cooper (Big Springs) and freshmen Casey Marsh (Hastings) join Bedlan and Janecek to make up the team. There is no prelims in the event; finals are run at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

            The rest of the Lopers will compete at the Hastings College Invite Saturday.
