Boettcher Fifth, Lewis, Janecek Eighth at National Meet
Kearney, NE – The
University of Nebraska at had three more All-Americans at the 2001 NCAA
Division II National Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston, Mass.
Saturday.
Senior Janet Boettcher
(Scotia) brought home her second All-American honors in the meet and her
eighth all-time with a fifth place finish in the shot put. Her throw of 45
feet 11-3/4 inches was good enough for fifth. Emporia State's Heather
Livingston won the event with a throw of 51 feet 6-1/2 inches.
Junior Leah Lewis
(Kearney) took home her second straight All-American honors in the trip
jump, by finishing eighth. Lewis, who finished sixth in the event last
year, jumped 38 feet 3-1/4 inches. Hillerie Shelton (Abiline Christian)
won the event with a jump of 41 feet 10-1/2 inches.
Senior Joel Janecek
(Gering) also earned All-American honors with an eighth place finish in
the 55-meter high hurdles. Janecek, who finished as an All-American last
year in the 110-meter high hurdles, finished with a time of 7.61 seconds.
Kevin Mitchell (New York Tech) won the event (7.43).
The Lopers had two
All-Americans on the first day of competition. Boettcher finished second
in the weight throw (59 feet) and senior Brett Wetton (Geneva)
finished third in the weight throw (61 feet 10-1/2 inches).
Also competing Saturday was
senior Scott Schepers (Kearney), who finished 11th in
the shot put with a throw of 50 feet 10-3/4 inches.
