FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 15, 2002
Tulsa, Okla. – Karen Fink has been appointed assistant track and field coach at The University of Tulsa, as announced by TU Head Coach Steve Gulley.
Fink comes to Tulsa from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. While at UNK, she was responsible for all aspects of training for the sprinters, hurdlers as well as the jumpers and pole vaulters. She helped lead the Lopers to their fifth consecutive men’s indoor Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title and the first ever women’s outdoor RMAC title. Seven UNK athletes coached by Fink, in addition to a 4x100m relay team, qualified for the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
Prior to coaching at UNK, Fink served as a graduate assistant for the track and field team at Central Missouri State University, where she coached the jumpers and assisted with the multi-event athletes. Fink has coached six NCAA Div. II All-Americans at CMSU (4) and UNK (2).
A graduate of Doane College in Crete, Neb., Fink was an NAIA national champion high jumper. The eight-time NAIA All-American, who specialized in the pentathlon, heptathlon and high jump, was named Doane’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1997 and 1998. In addition to her feats in track and field, she also earned all-conference honorable mention honors on the volleyball court for the Tigers.
Fink earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Doane in 1999. She completed work on a masters of science degree from Central Missouri State in 2001.
