Andersen, Alt Lead Track at KUFirst Day of Kansas Relays Kearney, NE – Senior Kathryn Alt and junior Andrea Andersen led the Nebraska-Kearney track team on the first day of the 77th annual Kansas Relays in Lawrence. One of the biggest meets in the country, the meet features 5,000 athletes from 19 different states. A total of 620 teams will be participating in this year's meet and 1,274 medals will be handed out. UNK has sent one of its largest contingencies ever to the Kansas Relays as 16 different Lopers (eight men and eight women) will compete this weekend. In the women's 800 meter run today, Alt (Hildreth) and Andersen (Lexington) both finished in the top six in a field of 24 runners. Anderson ran a 2:18.14 to place third while Alt was at a 2:19.77 to finish sixth. Kansas' Kim Clark won the event in a time of 2:11.30 with teammate Megan Manthe second (2:17.48). Also on the women's side, Butte junior Amber Tienfenthaler placed 17th (149-6) out of 32 in the hammer throw. Oklahoma State's Delisa McClain had a top throw of 178-6 to win the event. For the Loper men, sophomore Kellen Jacobs (Phillpsburg, Kans.) was ninth out of 30 in the hammer with a toss of 167-1. Unattached Nick Welihozkiy placed first with a throw of 210-9.
