Track Meet Shortened Due to RainTiefenthaler Gets NCAA Mark Kearney, NE – The Nebraska-Kearney track team won seven events, five women and two men, in a rain shortened UNK Open today at Kearney High. This was the Lopers first outdoor meet of the season and its only home outdoor event of the year. Before the sky opened up at around 1:00 p.m., 10 women's and nine men's events were completed. Butte junior Amber Tiefenthaler had the highlight of the day for UNK as her winning effort in the hammer (173-8) provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. She won the event by nearly 14 feet. Also winning on the women's side was Lexington junior Andrea Andersen in the 1,500 meter run (5:15.13), Elkhorn junior Lesley Crutcher in the high jump (5-4), Hooper junior Cali Cordes in the pole vault (11-6) and Lincoln junior Andrea Herndon in the 10,000 meter run (45:07.27). Placing second for the women were Culbertson freshman Sara Wagner in the long jump (17-11.50), Kearney freshman Kellie Hawkins in the pole vault (11-0) and Wyoming junior Laura Emmerich in the 10,000 (45:21.24) For the Loper men, Kansas senior Skyler Price leaped 6-4 to win the high jump while Bertrand junior Mike Ford won the pole vault with an effort of 14-11. Lucas Horn, competing unattached, won the long jump (23-1.50) as well. UNK competes at Hays, Kans., next Saturday. |
