Track Adds Two Qualifiers

Lopers Win 20 Events

            Kearney, Neb. –   The Nebraska-Kearney track team won 20 events -- 12 women, eight men -- and had two new provisional qualifiers at its own Loper Open Saturday in Cushing Coliseum. ...Complete Results

            In addition, Hooper senior Cali Cordes set a field house record when she went 11-2 in the pole vault. The previous record of 11-1 was held by several individuals.

            Putting their names on the NCAA Championship list were Elkhorn senior Lesley Crutcher in the high jump and Kearney freshman Ross Fellows in the triple jump.       

            Crutcher went 5-6 to place second in the event while Fellows went 47-8.75 to easily win the triple. The effort is the fourth best mark in the nation so far this year.

            Fellows also won the long jump (22-6.25), the second straight week he is a double winner.

            Also on the men's side, placing first was Walthill senior Derek Frese in the weight throw (56-4.75), Kearney senior Luke Garringer in the 1,000 (2:34.88),  Omaha junior Al Stahlnecker in the 55 hurdles (7.73) and Kearney freshman Brock Steinbrink in the mile (4:30.68).

            The 4 x 400 (3:30.53) and 4 x 800 (8:21.99) relay teams also place first.

            For the women, Culbertson sophomore Sara Wagner won both the long (18-1.50) and triple (36-11.75) while Central City junior Shauna Birchard was the top finisher in the shot (46-3.50)

            UNK's other eight winners all came on the track. They were Bellwood senior Kate Semin in the 200 (26.35), Lexington senior Andrea Andersen in the 800 (1:01.33), Lincoln senior Andrea Herndon in the mile (5:24.71) and Marshland junior Randi Furman in the 55 (7.31).

            Also winning were Grand Island freshman Lea Schneider in the 55 hurdles (8.92), Kearney freshman Jordan Pallas in the 3,000 (10:58.51) and Lincoln freshman Jennifer Fritz in the 1,000 (3:09.76).

            Finally, the 4 x 400 relay team (4:07.82) won as well.

            UNK hosts the Charlie Foster Classic next Saturday.
