Track Competes in LincolnWagner Lone UNK Winner Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track team had 19 top five finishes (10 women, nine men) at the Holiday Inn Invite this weekend in Lincoln. This was the Lopers second meet of the indoor season and the first of the New Year. Leading the men was Kearney freshman Ross Fellows, who was runner up in both the unseeded long jump (21-10.25) and unseeded triple jump (46-2). The women were paced by Bellwood senior Kate Semin, Central City junior Shauna Birchard and Culbertson sophomore Sara Wagner. Semin was runner up in the 400 (57.64), placed ninth in the 200 (25.95) and helped the 4 x 400 relay team finish fifth (3:59.31). The team also consisted of senior Denise Kolar (Springfield), junior Andrea Andersen (Lexington) and sophomore Katie Schaneman (Gering). Birchard was runner up in the seeded shot put (46-11) and fifth in the seeded weight throw (48-5.50). Wagner was the Lopers only winner of the meet, placing first in the unseeded long jump (17-5.25). She also was sixth in the seeded triple jump (36-2.25). Also for the women, Andersen was third (2:21.73) and Imperial freshman Michelle Dill fourth (2:22.44) at 800 meters while Marshland junior Randi Furman qualified for the 60 meter finals and was eighth (8.04). Off the track, Bellevue junior Carli Seeba was third in the unseeded shot put (41-5) with Red Cloud junior Amber Tiedman finishing fourth in the unseeded weight throw (46-8.25) and placing fifth in the seeded shot (44-6.25). On the men’s side, Lance Pfeiffer (Eustis) and Jarrod Holz (Ashland), who are both redshirting, each had second place efforts. Pfeiffer was runner up in the seeded shot (56-5.25) with Holz going for second in the unseeded weight throw (51-1). Also in the throws, Walthill senior Derek Frese was third in the seeded weight throw (57-11) and came in forth in the unseeded shot (47-7.25). In the jumps, Elgin freshman Chris Vacha (6-5) and Kearney freshman Nick Bennett (6-3.25) placed 2-3 in the unseeded high jump. The distance medley relay team of Brock Steinbrink, Nolan Little, Matt Bjornsen, and Luke Garringer – all Kearney High grads -- led the way on the track. They came in the third in a time of 10:18.19. Finally, Omaha junior Al Stahlnecker qualified for the 60 meter hurdles finals, placing eighth (8.50), while Norfolk senior Ryan Brown was 10th at 200 meters (23.08). UNK is at home next Saturday. |
