Trio Leads Track in Lincoln

Lopers Compete in Prairie Wolf

            Kearney, NE — The Nebraska-Kearney track team had 16 top four finishes (11 women, 5 men) Friday night at the Prairie Wolf Invite in Lincoln.

Leading the way were Bellwood senior Kate Semin, Hooper junior Cali Cordes and Culbertson sophomore Sara Wagner.

            Once again, Cordes broke her own school record in the pole vault (11-6), going 12-0 to tie for second place.

            Semin provisionally qualified for the NCAA’s in the 400 dash thanks to a season-best time of 57.23. Placing second in the event, Semin is already on the NCAA list in the 200.

Culbertson sophomore Sara Wagner won the triple jump with a season-best leap of 38-3.50, provisionally qualifying her for the NCAA’s. She already is on the list in the long jump.

            Also on the women’s side, Central City sophomore Shauna Birchard won the shot put (46-7.50) with Red Cloud junior Amber Tiedeman runner up (46-0.75).

            The duo also tied for fourth in the weight throw (50-2.75).

            On the track, Lexington senior Andrea Andersen was second in the 600 meter run (1:36.55), Marshland junior Randi Furman was third in the 60 (7.80), Kearney freshman Jordan Pallas was fourth in the mile (5:11.07) and, finally, the 4 x 400 relay team placed fourth in a season-best time of 3:57.44.

            The distance medley relay team led the men, placing second in a time of 10:17.73.

            Finishing third on the day were Walthill senior Derek Frese in the weight throw (60-4.50) and Bertrand senior Mike Ford in the pole vault (16-2).

            Finishing fourth in the meet were Kearney freshman Ross Fellows the triple jump (46-1.25) and Elgin freshman Chris Vacha in the high jump (6-6).

            UNK will host a All-Comer Open next Friday afternoon in Cushing before the RMAC’s come to Kearney the following week.
