Track Signs GI Northwest StarLopers Add Talented Athlete Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head track and field coach Andy Meyer announced today that Grand Island Northwest star Alicia Frederick has signed a letter of intent with the Lopers. Last spring, Frederick helped the Vikings to a third place finish at the B5 Districts. She was runner up in the shot put (39-7) while also placing fourth in the 100-meter dash. She then ran on the 400-meter relay team that finished second and qualified for state. At the state meet, she finished 17th in the shot put. “We’re very excited to have someone with Alicia’s versatility and strengths joining our team next year, ” Meyer said. “Her natural athletic ability will give her the opportunity to help us in a number of areas, including the throws and the multi-events.” Last week, Franklin thrower Samantha Murphy announced her intentions to be a Loper next year. The Lopers begin the season in just a few weeks with the Kearney Pre-Holiday Open on Friday, December 10th. It will be the first of five home events for the team this season, which includes the RMAC Indoor Championships. The UNK women will have four returning All-Americans in seniors Lesley Crutcher, Kate Semin and Amber Tiefenthaler and junior Shauna Birchard. |
