Track Finishes with Three All-AmericansMile Mark Falls
Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney senior Michelle Dill broke a 21-year old school record in the mile to earn All-American honors Saturday at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn. Dill (Imperial/Chase County H.S.) joins long jumpers Kelli Dring and Spencer Huff as Lopers to place in the top eight this indoor season. Both Dring and Huff earned their honors Friday night. Dill becomes the first UNK female to achieve All-American honors in a distance even since 1990. She qualified for Saturday's finals by running a 5:00.04 Friday afternoon. She easily bested the mark by running a 4:57.63 Saturday to finishing seventh out of nine runners. Her time is just a hare better then the 4:57.78 achieved by Donna Spickelmier on February 27th, 1987. Seattle Pacific had the top two finishers Saturday, led by national champ Jessica Pixler (4:47.75). Also on the second day of competition, York senior Jacquelyn Dibbern finished 13th at 5,000 meters (17:42.67), Kearney senior Ross Fellows was 11th in the triple jump (46-7.50) and Palmer freshman Julie Davis came in 12th place in the shot put (43-3.25). UNK begins the outdoor season next weekend with a small multi-event meet at Kearney High. The season begins in earnest the following weekend at Hays, Kan.
