Volleyball to Face Springs in RMAC Finals

Lopers Stop Losing Skid to WNMU; Reach 30 Wins for 23rd Time

Kearney, Neb. – The 21st-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team got 15 kills from sophomore Nikki Scott and 13 from senior Alison Glidden to sweep Western New Mexico (-20, -25, -24) in the RMAC Tournament semifinals Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.

      Top-seeded UNK (30-4) will now face 3rd-seed Colorado-Colorado Springs (20-11) in the finals tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.  The Mountain Lions beat 7th-seed Adams State, 3-1 (-23, 24-30, -28, -28), in tonight's early match.

Tonight's win for the Lopers stops a two-match losing streak to the Mustangs (17-12) and extends UNK's win streak to 16 straight. In the Rick Squiers era (1999-present), this is now the fourth longest winning streak.

Also, this is the 23rd season in which UNK has won at least 30 matches.

Tonight's match featured 20 ties and nine lead changes. The Lopers pretty much had control of each game by about the 20 point mark.

Scott (Broken Bow) reached her kill total in 29 swings and hit a team-best .448. She also supplied four blocks at the net. Joining Scott in the middle, freshman Jeri Walkowiak (Grand Island) provided 10 kills, a team-high five blocks and hit .381.

Having one of her better matches of 2007, Glidden (Benkelman) hit .308 and made only one error in 39 attempts. The lefty outside hitter also had six digs and two blocks.

UNK out hit the Mustangs by a wide margin, .259 to .105, and won the dig game by 14, 77-63. The Lopers also came up with 9.0 team blocks with three players recording at least four stuffs.

Also for the blue and gold, setter Cola Svec (Elkhorn) had 47 assists and 16 digs, defensive specialist Lauren Nordhues had 18 digs and libero Kelli Wemhoff had a match-high 22 digs.

Wemhoff will need just 14 digs tomorrow to join Angie Usher (1993) and Linda Loschen (1986) as the only Lopers to have 600 in a single season.

For Western, Alzie Aueluia recorded a double double (17 digs, 12 kills).
