Schroeder Leads Lopers to Win; Streak at 75

Kearney, NE — The 14th-ranked University of Nebraska at Kearney women’s basketball team used a 13-4 run in the final six minutes of the game to down in-state rival Nebraska-Omaha Saturday night in the Health and Sports Center.

The Lopers extended their home court winning streak to 75 games. The winning streak is the second longest in NCAA Division II history and dates back to January 1995.

UNK senior Becky Schroder (Belden) led the Loper attack with 19 points and six rebounds. Junior Anny Burdorf (Emmetsburg, Iowa) had 14 points, while junior Beth Swift (LaMars, Iowa) and sophomore Allison Kruger (Paulina, Iowa) each added 10. Kruger also added seven rebounds and three steals.

Despite shooting just .364 in the first half, the Lopers (5-0) led the Mavericks (1-5) at halftime 31-20. UNK shot .404 for the game while the Mavericks shot .400. UNO was plagued with turnovers, committing 23 in the game and 17 in the first half.

UNO was led by Jennifer Mitchell, who had 14 points and former Loper Anne Bomstad, who had 13 points.

UNK begins Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend as they travel to Colorado-Colorado Springs Friday night and Southern Colorado Saturday night.
