Swift
Ties School Record For Career Three-Pointers
Kearney, NE — University of
Nebraska at Kearney junior Beth Swift (LeMars, Iowa) nailed seven
three-pointers to tie the record for career three-point baskets made as
the Lopers downed in-state opponent Nebraska Wesleyan, 91-44 Saturday
afternoon in the Health and Sports Center.
With the win, the 10th-ranked
Lopers (11-0) ran their home-court winning streak to 78 games. The streak
dates back to 1995 and is the longest current home-court winning streak in
the nation.
Swift, who currently has 117
three-point baskets in her career, tied the record when she drained her
seventh of the contest with 6:28 remaining. Kara Graham also had 117
three-point baskets in her career (1996-1999). Swift needed just one more
three to tie her own school record for three-pointers in a game (8, vs.
Regis, Dec. 1999).
Swift's seventh trey was also
significant, as it was the 13th three the team hit for the
night, which broke the school record for three-pointers in a game. The
previous record was set in January of 1999, when the team had 12 threes in
a game against Adams State.
UNK hit on all cylinders, and
quickly jumped out to a leads of 12-2, 23-6, and 43-11 before taking a
52-15 halftime lead.
Swift and senior Becky Schroeder
(Belden) led the Lopers with 23 points a piece. Junior Anny Burdorf
(Emmetsburg, Iowa) also added 16 and four three-pointers.
Schroeder and junior Mamissa
Mwenentanda (Lubumbashi, Congo) led the team at the boards, as the two
grabbed a game-high seven rebounds each.
The Prairie Wolves were led by
Sheree Oldenhoeft's 10 points and five rebounds. Their productivity was
hampered by turnovers as the team committed 32 turnovers, including 19 in
the first half.
The Lopers will return to Rocky
Mountain Athletic Conference play Thursday and Friday as they travel to
Western State and Mesa State.
