UNK Teams Host RMAC Tournament Games
Kearney, NE — The University of Nebraska at Kearney men's and
women's basketball teams begin postseason play tomorrow night with RMAC
Tournament first round games.
The 7th-ranked women (24-2, 17-2 RMAC) host rival Fort
Hays State (15-14, 10- 9 RMAC) at 6:00 p.m. Southern Colorado (16-10, 11-8
RMAC) plays the Loper men (20-5, 15-4 RMAC) at 8:00 p.m. The winner of
each game advances to the Mile High Shootout, to be held Friday and
Saturday in Denver.
Due to the contests being a RMAC sponsored events, season ticket
holders will also have to pay for the games. Cost is $ 6.00 for adults and
$ 3.00 for children/students with ID. The first 200 UNK students will get
in for only $ 1.00, thanks to the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).
A NCAA record could be broken as the women shoot for the Division
II mark for consecutive home victories. UNK last lost at home on January
25, 1995 (Northern State, 79-71). Since then, the Lopers have reeled off
85 straight wins, tying the division mark of West Texas A & M.
Hays, which fell to UNK twice this year, hasn't won in Kearney
since the 1990-91 season, a span of 10 games. Over the last seven contests
at UNK, the Tigers haven't gotten within 12 points of the Lopers with the
average margin of victory being 24 points (81-57). However, the Tigers
still lead the all-time series (33-25) and have handed Loper head coach
Amy Stephens four of her 12 all-time RMAC losses.
